Welcome back to Askew Elementary School! The third grade= team is very excited to begin a new year. When teachers, parents, students and t= he administrators work together, all students will learn at high levels. On our webpage at Askew.org, you will have access to important policies, teachers&= #8217; email addresses, as well as some special dates for upcoming projects and fi= eld trips. Conduct/ Homework

All third graders will receive a planner that is sent home daily and should be = initialed by a parent/ guardian and returned the following school day. Please look fo= r: homework, conduct entries written by your child’s teachers, notes and important handouts from the office. Students will complete and write down t= heir homework assignments in the planner. Students who do not complete homework = will complete it at recess time. Students will have to study multiplication fact= s, complete a reading log, as well as complete math homework and science proje= cts. Multiplication tests will be administered every Friday. If there is no scho= ol on a particular Friday, then the test will administered on the Thursday bef= ore. Grades for projects that are turned in late will be dropped 11 points after= the due date. Please make sure to look through the planner/ folder nightly, and sign the necessary items in the folder. E=3D excellent, S=3D satisfactory, = P=3D poor, and U=3D unacceptable. Students with poor conduct will not be allowed to at= tend field trips, parties and assemblies.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend school unless they have a fever. They have a lot to learn, and we don’t want students to miss any instruction. When a stu= dent is absent, it is important to send a written excuse within three days of the absence. If a frequently absent student does not submit written excuses, the computer will automatically retain (fail) him/ her. We don’t want thi= s to happen to anyone. Tardiness- It is imperative that every student is on time everyday. School begins promptly at 7:50am. This year, tardiness will be tabulated everyday. Students arriving after 7:50 must go directly to the of= fice to receive a tardy slip.

Conferences

If you have a question or concern, please feel free to call 281-368-2100 or em= ail your child’s teacher. If we are in a meeting, please leave your phone number and we will get back with you within one business day from the time = the message was received. The best time to call is between 9:55 and 10:30am bec= ause this is our designated conference period. If you feel that an “in person” meeting would work better, call in or email a conference requ= est. If you feel that an email response will suffice, we will respond within one business day- unless the servers are down. You can also send a written note requesting a conference. However, please be aware that students often lose notes. Therefore, email is the preferred method of communication. Teachers = are not permitted to hold parent/ teacher conferences neither during instruction time, nor during our duty times which are 7:45 until school starts and 3:20-3:30. This is due to our students needing our undivided attention. We appreciate your understanding.

Birthdays/ School Visits=

Parents may bring cupcakes for the class during lunch only. Please make sure that y= ou check in at the front office every time you visit and get a visitor’s= tag. Then, you should go to the cafeteria and pass out the cupcakes. The teachers will be attending meetings during lunch. So, we will not be able to pass out the cupcakes.

If you need to pick up your child early, please tell the clerk or secretary in= the front office. They will call your child to the office to meet you. Parents = will not be allowed to personally interrupt instruction. Thanks for your cooperation.
