Volunteer Guidelines

Askew Elementary loves each and every one of its volunteers! We appreciate all of their hard work and dedication to our students! We have come up with the following guidelines for all visitors, volunteers and observers. These are designed to ensure the safety and to protect the confidentiality of all students at Askew.

• Each day when arriving and leaving campus, all visitors must go through the front office, whether they have a PTO badge or receive a Raptor pass.
• All school volunteers and chaperones must complete an HISD background check prior to working on campus.
(Click here and follow the directions to register with the VIPS program)
• Classroom volunteers will be organized by the teacher. A time and date will be set prior to the arrival of the volunteer to give the teacher time to prepare.
• Parents may also volunteer inside classrooms other than their child’s classroom at the teacher’s discretion.
• If wanting to do work for your child’s teacher, parents have the option to do so outside of the classroom as well, such as cutting out shapes, etc. This can be arranged with the teacher.
• Parent observations must be set up in advance with the teacher or an administrator. Observations may last no more than 20 minutes.
• Parents must keep cell phones on vibrate at all times. Please refrain from using your phone in the classroom.
• Non-school aged children are not permitted in classrooms when students are present, unless at a classroom party or function.

We look forward to working with you this school year!
